We challenge you to raise £100 for Let The Children Live! anytime over what would have been Captain Tom’s 101st birthday weekend - from Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May!
Let The Children Live! is a smallish UK Charity that works with vulnerable children from the streets and shanty-towns of Medellín, Colombia; children whom everyone else has given up on. Amongst other things we do for them, we send them to school and offer them a great deal of educational support, as education is one way they can avoid being sucked into the many gangs that frequent the shanty-towns. Education can give them a chance of life, life in all its fulness.
However, the pandemic has resulted in schools being closed in Colombia, just as it did in the UK and that is still the situation at the moment. There are, of course, lessons on-line, but the children whom we help don't have access to computers or the Internet, unless we can provide them. If they fall behind with lessons the schools will put them back a year and they will be in danger of losing heart and dropping out. if they do that, they will very probably end up in one of the gangs.
In view of this we are trying to help as many as possible to continue their learning on line by bringing them to our two Centres where we have our Educators, computers and access to the Internet. However, we don't have many computers, certainly not as many as we need, so we are hoping to buy Tablets for them to borrow whilst they are with us. Money however, is very tight since like most charities we have not been able to undertake our normal fundraising for over a year now and don't yet know when it will resume again. So, we are turning to new ways of raising money---and this is one of them!
Will you take up the Challenge and raise £100 so that we can buy the tech we need to help give these children the chance of a worthwhile future, rather than a short life in one of the gangs?
Please accept our warmest thanks for your support!
